Common Scimitarbill, Rhinopomastus cyanomelas, is a bird of southern and south-eastern Africa in the wood hoopoe family Phoeniculidae. It was described by Vieillot in 1819. Its breeding range lies in Africa’s south and south-east. Adults have a black bill, while young birds show a grey one. Females and juveniles are browner on the front of the body. The species uses its probing bill to take insects from beneath tree bark.
