Common Smoky Honeyeater, Melipotes fumigatus, is a honeyeater of montane western to south-eastern New Guinea in Australasia. It was described by Meyer, AB, 1886. The bird is known for the orange marking around its eyes, set against a dark body. It occurs in central Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesia, and its breeding range lies in the mountains. Breeding takes place in September and October, in dry conditions, with nests placed above the ground or beside a tree branch. It belongs to the family Meliphagidae and the order Passeriformes.
