Cook's petrel (Pterodroma cookii) is a medium-sized seabird that belongs to the Procellariidae family. It has a dark grey upper body, white underparts, and a distinctive M-shaped dark marking on its upperwings. This species is known for its remarkable flying abilities, effortlessly gliding over the open ocean for long distances. Cook's petrels are nocturnal, breeding on remote islands in the Southern Hemisphere and foraging over the cold waters of the Southern Ocean. They are skilled at catching small fish and squid by plunge-diving. Despite facing threats from introduced predators on some breeding islands, the global population of Cook's petrels is currently considered stable.
