Cordilleran Canastero

Asthenes anthoides

The Cordilleran Canastero (Asthenes anthoides) is a small, terrestrial bird found in the high Andes of South America. It is characterized by its streaked brown plumage, short tail, and slightly curved bill. This species is often found foraging on the ground for insects and seeds, and its cryptic coloration provides effective camouflage in its rocky habitat. The Cordilleran Canastero is well-adapted to the harsh alpine environment, where it can be found at elevations of up to 4,500 meters. Despite its specialized habitat, this species is relatively common within its range and is not currently considered at risk.
