Touit costaricensis
The Costa Rican Parrotlet (Touit costaricensis) is a small parrot species found in the lowland and foothill forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. These parrotlets are characterized by their vibrant green plumage, with a yellowish-green wash on the head and neck. They have a short, square tail and a stout, hooked bill. Costa Rican Parrotlets form small flocks and are often seen foraging for fruits, seeds, and flowers in the forest canopy. They are known for their high-pitched, rapid calls and are considered to be highly vocal. Due to habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, the conservation status of the Costa Rican Parrotlet is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
