Costa Rican Pygmy Owl, Glaucidium costaricanum, is an owl of Middle America, breeding in Costa Rica and Panama. It was described by Kelso in 1937 and belongs to the family Strigidae. In Costa Rica it occurs in the Cordillera Central and Cordillera de Talamanca, and it also reaches western Panama in scattered areas. It uses the canopy and forest margins of humid montane oak and evergreen woodland. The species is resident throughout the year, and adults show two colour forms, one mainly brown and the other rufous.
