Costa Rican Pygmy Owl

Glaucidium costaricanum

The Costa Rican Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium costaricanum) is a small owl species found in the cloud forests and montane forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. This owl is characterized by its small size, large head, and prominent white eyebrows. It has a brownish-gray plumage with intricate patterns and markings, providing excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. The Costa Rican Pygmy Owl is a fierce predator, preying on small birds, mammals, and insects. Its haunting hooting call can often be heard echoing through the misty forests where it resides.
