Zentrygon costaricensis
The Costa Rican Quail-Dove, scientifically known as Zentrygon costaricensis, is a species of dove found in the cloud forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. It is characterized by its vibrant plumage, with shades of chestnut, gray, and green. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of mournful coos that echo through the misty forest. The Costa Rican Quail-Dove forages on the forest floor for seeds, fruits, and insects, and is often observed in pairs or small groups. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the conservation status of this species is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
