Costa Rican Swift

Cypseloides cherriei

The Costa Rican Swift is a small, fast-flying bird found in the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama. It has a dark brown plumage with a slightly paler throat and belly. This species is known for its impressive aerial acrobatics and can often be seen flying in large flocks over forested areas. Costa Rican Swifts build their nests behind waterfalls or in other sheltered locations near water. They primarily feed on flying insects, which they catch in mid-air using their wide, gaping mouths. Despite their small size, Costa Rican Swifts are highly adapted for life on the wing and are a remarkable sight in their natural habitat.
