Costa's Hummingbird, Calypte costae, breeds in North America and Middle America, in south-western USA and north-western Mexico, and spends the non-breeding season in western Mexico. It is a hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. Its breeding range includes Southern California and the Baja California Peninsula, with records from the Pacific coast and inland areas. These include conifer and oak forests, chaparral, high desert, and places with flowering gardens and backyard feeders. It was described by Bourcier in 1839.
