Polioptila lactea
The Creamy-bellied Gnatcatcher (Polioptila lactea) is a small songbird found in South America. It is characterized by its distinctive creamy-white underparts and bluish-gray upperparts. This species is known for its active foraging behavior, often flitting through the canopy in search of insects and spiders. The Creamy-bellied Gnatcatcher typically builds its cup-shaped nest in the fork of a tree, using spider webs and lichens to camouflage the exterior. It inhabits a variety of forested habitats, including tropical and subtropical moist lowland forests, as well as secondary growth and woodland edges. Despite facing threats such as habitat loss and fragmentation, the conservation status of the Creamy-bellied Gnatcatcher is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
