Crested Auklet

Crested Auklet, Aethia cristatella, breeds on the north-western to north-eastern Pacific coasts, from eastern Chukotka and north-eastern Kamchatka through the Sea of Okhotsk, Sakhalin, the Kuril and Commander islands, the Bering Sea islands and the Aleutians. Outside the breeding season it is pelagic, reaching Hokkaido, northern Honshu and the Gulf of Alaska. It is a small seabird in the auk family, and it is noted for a forehead crest, a citrus-like scent and a loud trumpet call. It also nests in dense colonies, sometimes with the Least Auklet.
