Crested Bellbird

Oreoica gutturalis

The Crested Bellbird (Oreoica gutturalis) is a medium-sized songbird native to Australia. It is known for its distinctive call, a clear 'ping' or 'boink' sound that is often heard in the arid and semi-arid regions of the country. The bird is characterized by its striking black and white plumage, with a prominent crest on its head. Crested Bellbirds are primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects and spiders in open woodlands and shrublands. They build cup-shaped nests in low vegetation and lay 2-3 eggs. The species is known for its territorial behavior and can be seen perched on exposed branches or wires. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to its populations.
