Crested Black Tyrant, Knipolegus lophotes, is a passerine of south-eastern South America, breeding from central and south-eastern Brazil to Uruguay, with a small separate population in eastern Paraguay. It belongs to the Tyrannidae family. It is a monotypic species and is notable for its long, thin crest, which sets it apart within its genus. The sexes are alike in plumage, and adults are almost wholly glossy blue-black. In flight, the white bases of the wing feathers become visible, while the bill, legs and feet are black.
