Crested Francolin

The Crested Francolin, scientifically known as Scleroptila streptophora, is a medium-sized bird native to eastern Africa. This ground-dwelling bird is recognized by its distinctive crest and intricate plumage patterns. The male has a striking black and white face with a chestnut collar, while the female has a more subdued appearance. Crested Francolins are typically found in savannas and grasslands, where they forage for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. They are known for their distinctive calls and are often seen in pairs or small groups. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressure, the conservation status of the Crested Francolin is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
