Crested Spinetail, Cranioleuca subcristata, is a bird of montane evergreen forest in Venezuela and Colombia, with its breeding range in northern Venezuela and adjacent northeastern Colombia, plus the Serranía del Perijá on the border. It is a member of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. The bird has only a slight crest despite its name, and the sexes look alike. The nominate form is the more widespread, while C. s. fuscivertex has stronger crown striping. It is a year-round resident and occurs in mature secondary forest and plantations as well.
