The Crimson-capped Fruit Dove, also known as Hernsheim's Fruit Dove, is a species of bird native to the islands of Papua New Guinea. It is characterized by its striking crimson cap, green upperparts, and purple underparts. This medium-sized fruit dove is known for its distinctive cooing calls and is often found in the dense rainforests and lowland forests of its range. It primarily feeds on fruits and plays a key role in seed dispersal within its ecosystem. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the conservation status of the Crimson-capped Fruit Dove is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
