Crimson-collared Grosbeak, Periporphyrus celaeno, is a bird of middle America, breeding in north-eastern Mexico and ranging along the Gulf slope from central Nuevo León and southern Tamaulipas to north-eastern Puebla and northern Veracruz. It also turns up in southern Texas. It lives in semi-arid to humid woodland, secondary forest and citrus groves. The male is marked by a black head, throat and upper breast, with dark crimson on the nape and mantle, while the female is olive above and olive-yellow below.
