Crimson-collared Tanager, Ramphocelus sanguinolentus, breeds from southern Mexico to Panama in Middle America. It is a passerine in the tanager family and was described by Lesson in 1831. It is a small songbird with a black adult plumage marked by a red collar on the nape, neck and breast, and red tail coverts. The bill is pale blue and the legs are blue-grey. Adults have crimson irises. Females are usually a little duller, while juveniles show a dull red hood and mottled breast.
