Crimson-hooded Manakin

Laniocera hypopyrra

The Crimson-hooded Manakin is a small passerine bird found in the tropical forests of South America. The males of this species are known for their striking crimson and black plumage, with a vibrant red hood that gives them their name. They are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where males gather in leks to perform acrobatic dances to attract females. These manakins feed on fruits, insects, and small arthropods, and are often found in the lower levels of the forest canopy. While they are not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to their populations.
