Crowned Sandgrouse

Pterocles personatus

The Crowned Sandgrouse (Pterocles personatus) is a medium-sized bird found in the arid regions of North Africa and the Middle East. It is known for its striking plumage and distinct crown markings, with a mottled brown and grey body and intricate patterns on its wings. These birds are highly adapted to desert life, obtaining most of their water from the seeds and vegetation they consume. They are often seen in small flocks, foraging for food in open, sandy areas. The Crowned Sandgrouse is also known for its unique behavior of carrying water to their chicks by soaking their breast feathers and allowing the chicks to drink from them.
