Cuban Amazon

Amazona leucocephala (Linnaeus, 1758)

Cuban Amazon, Amazona leucocephala, is a parrot of Cuba, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands in North America, where it occurs in woodland and dry forest. It is mainly green, with blue in the wings, black-edged feathers, a rosy pink throat and lower face, and a white forehead and eye-rings. The species was first described by Linnaeus in 1758. It breeds from March to September, nesting in tree cavities across most of its range, though birds on Abaco use underground limestone holes. Two to four white eggs are laid and the female incubates them for 26–28 days.
