Cuban Macaw

Ara tricolor (Bechstein, 1811)

Cuban Macaw, Ara tricolor, was an extinct parrot of Cuba, including the main island and Isla de la Juventud. It belonged to the Psittaciformes and Psittacidae. It was one of the smallest macaws, and its plumage combined red, orange, yellow, white, green, brown and blue. It was reported from the Zapata Swamp and from open country with scattered trees, and its original spread across Cuba is not known. It nested in tree hollows, lived in pairs or family groups, and ate seeds and fruit. It disappeared in the late nineteenth century.
