Cundinamarca Antpitta

Grallaria alticola

The Cundinamarca Antpitta (Grallaria alticola) is a small, elusive bird species found in the cloud forests of the Eastern Andes in Colombia. It is characterized by its olive-brown plumage, with a distinctive rufous crown and white throat. These ground-dwelling birds are known for their shy behavior and are often heard more than seen. They forage for insects and small invertebrates in the dense undergrowth of the cloud forest, using their strong legs and sharp bill to probe the leaf litter. The Cundinamarca Antpitta is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and agricultural expansion.
