D'Arnaud's Barbet

Trachyphonus darnaudii (Prévost & des Murs, 1847)

D'Arnaud's Barbet is a bird of East Africa in the family Lybiidae, breeding in the region from southeastern South Sudan through Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania. It was first described in 1847 by Prévost and des Murs. The species is placed in the genus Trachyphonus and includes three recognised subspecies. It is known for its heavy bill, which is edged with bristles. A separate bird, the Usambiro barbet, was once included with it but is now treated as its own species.
