Pelecanus crispus

The Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus) is one of the largest pelican species with a wingspan reaching up to 3.5 meters. It is characterized by its massive body, long bill, and distinctive silvery-white plumage. These majestic birds are primarily found in shallow, freshwater habitats such as lakes, deltas, and marshes. Dalmatian Pelicans are known for their impressive fishing skills, using their large pouch-like bill to scoop up fish. They are social birds, often seen in large flocks during the breeding season. Despite their size, they are graceful and powerful fliers. The Dalmatian Pelican is listed as 'Vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, disturbance at breeding sites, and collision with power lines and poles.
