Junco hyemalis
The Dark-eyed Junco is a small sparrow known for its distinctive plumage and behavior. These birds have a dark gray head, a pink bill, and a white belly. They are commonly found in coniferous and mixed forests across North America. Dark-eyed Juncos are ground foragers and often gather in flocks during the winter months. They feed on seeds, insects, and berries. During the breeding season, they build cup-shaped nests on the ground or low in shrubs. Their melodious trill is a familiar sound in their woodland habitats.
