Dark Newtonia

Dark Newtonia, Newtonia amphichroa, is a bird of the Vangidae family that breeds in montane north-west and east Madagascar. It was first described by Reichenow in 1891. The species is split into two recognised subspecies, with N. a. amphichroa in montane north Madagascar and N. a. lavarambo in montane south Madagascar. N. a. lavarambo was described as a separate species in 2018, but it is now treated as a subspecies of Dark Newtonia by taxonomic authorities.
