Diamond Firetail

Stagonopleura guttata

The Diamond Firetail is a small, strikingly colored finch species native to southeastern Australia. It is easily recognized by its black and white diamond-patterned plumage and bright red bill. These social birds are often found in small flocks and are known for their melodious calls and acrobatic flight displays during courtship. They primarily feed on grass seeds and insects. The Diamond Firetail is typically found in open woodlands, grasslands, and heathlands, where they build their cup-shaped nests in shrubs or low trees. Despite being locally common, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to their populations.
