Dickinson's kestrel

Falco dickinsoni

Dickinson's kestrel is a small bird of prey found in the grasslands and savannas of eastern and southern Africa. It has a distinctive plumage, with a grey head, white face, and rufous upperparts. This kestrel is known for its hovering hunting technique, where it hovers in the air before diving down to catch its prey. It primarily feeds on insects, small mammals, and birds. The species is known for its adaptability to human-modified landscapes, often nesting in man-made structures. Despite this adaptability, habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose threats to its population.
