Djibouti Spurfowl

Pternistis ochropectus (Dorst & Jouanin, 1952)

Phasianidae — Pheasants & Allies

Djibouti Spurfowl, Pternistis ochropectus, is a pheasant relative found in montane Djibouti in Africa. It lives in high-elevation dry forest, especially areas dominated by African juniper, though it may also occur in box-tree forest where its preferred habitat has declined. The bird is known from only two sites in Djibouti, with one still largely unsurveyed. It is grey-brown overall, with white striping and streaking below that becomes finer higher on the body, plus black markings on the head, a grey crown and a short tail.
