Raphus cucullatus

The Dodo, scientifically known as Raphus cucullatus, was a flightless bird endemic to the island of Mauritius. It was a large, bulky bird, standing about 1 meter tall and weighing around 20 kilograms. The Dodo had a distinctive appearance with a large, hooked beak, small wings, and stout, yellow legs. Its plumage was primarily grayish-brown with lighter underparts. The Dodo was a ground-dwelling bird that inhabited the forests and coastal areas of Mauritius. Unfortunately, due to human activity and the introduction of non-native species, the Dodo became extinct by the late 17th century.
