Doria's Hawk

Megatriorchis doriae Salvadori & D'Albertis, 1875

Doria's Hawk, Megatriorchis doriae, lives in Batanta and New Guinea in Australasia, where it is tied to lowland rainforest. It was described by Salvadori & D'Albertis in 1875 and is the only species in its genus. A member of the Accipitridae, it is a large hawk with a female that is bigger than the male. It has greyish-brown upperparts, a black-barred crown, whitish underparts, a dark streak behind the eye, a blackish bill and greenish-yellow legs. The juvenile is paler and more reddish-brown.
