Trochilidae — Hummingbirds

Dot-eared Coquette, Lophornis gouldii, is a hummingbird of north-eastern and central Brazil, with a record from Bolivia. It lives in semi-open to open country, including forest edges, savanna and cerrado, from sea level to about 800 m. The male has a glittering golden-green forehead, a dark rufous crest, and white cheek plumes marked with green spots. Both sexes share a short red bill with a black tip. The female lacks the crest and cheek tufts, and the young resemble her.
