Double-banded Courser

Anarhynchus bicinctus

The Double-banded Courser is a medium-sized bird found in the arid regions of southern Africa. It is known for its distinctive double black bands across its chest and belly. This species is well-adapted to its desert habitat, with cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage among the sandy and rocky terrain. Double-banded Coursers are primarily ground-dwelling birds, using their long legs to navigate the uneven landscape in search of insects and small reptiles. They are known for their distinctive call, a series of clear whistles. While not currently considered threatened, their population may be vulnerable to habitat loss and disturbance.
