Double-barred Finch, Stizoptera bichenovii, is a bird of northern and eastern Australia, breeding across those parts of the continent. It belongs to the Estrildidae and was first described by Vigors and Horsfield in 1827. Its most striking feature is the dark banding on the face, which gives it the alternative name owl finch. It is also known as Bicheno’s finch. The species is the only member of Stizoptera. It occurs in dry savannah, tropical lowland grassland and shrubland.
