Hesperoburhinus bistriatus
The Double-striped Thick-knee, also known as the Banded Thick-knee, is a distinctive bird with a large body and long legs. It is characterized by its cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage in its arid and semi-arid habitats. This species is primarily nocturnal, foraging for insects, small mammals, and reptiles under the cover of darkness. Double-striped Thick-knees are known for their loud, piercing calls, which they use to communicate with other members of their group. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the population of these birds is declining in some areas, leading to concerns about their conservation status.
