Dusky-capped Flycatcher

Myiopagis subplacens

The Dusky-capped Flycatcher is a small and inconspicuous bird found in the forests and woodlands of Central and South America. It is characterized by its olive-green upperparts, dusky cap, and yellowish underparts. This species is known for its distinctive call, a sharp 'che-bek' or 'pik-a-pik' sound. Dusky-capped Flycatchers are often observed perching in the midstory or upper canopy, sallying out to catch insects in flight. They are known to breed in open woodlands, forest edges, and second growth habitats. Despite being relatively common, their populations may be impacted by habitat loss and fragmentation.
