Dusky-headed Parakeet

Aratinga weddellii

The Dusky-headed Parakeet, scientifically known as Aratinga weddellii, is a charming parrot species native to South America. These parakeets are characterized by their predominantly green plumage, with a dusky head and a vibrant red patch on their shoulders. They are highly social birds, often seen in flocks, and are known for their playful and inquisitive nature. Dusky-headed Parakeets are commonly found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, as well as wooded savannas and other wooded habitats. They are often observed feeding on fruits, seeds, and nuts. While their population is currently stable, habitat loss and capture for the pet trade pose potential threats to their future survival.
