Dusky Hummingbird, Phaeoptila sordida, is a hummingbird of Middle America, breeding in southern Mexico. It is the only member of its genus and was described by Gould in 1859. The species is confined to Mexico, where it occurs in the south-west, from Michoacán and Morelos to Oaxaca. It uses arid scrub and other open or partly open country with trees, and has been recorded from 900 to 2,200 m above sea level. It was once placed in Cynanthus, but is now treated in Phaeoptila.
