Dusky Lory

Ceyx solitarius

The Dusky Lory (Ceyx solitarius) is a small parrot species native to the islands of Papua New Guinea. It is known for its striking plumage, featuring a predominantly dark body with vibrant red, orange, and yellow markings on the head and wings. These colorful birds are highly social and often form large flocks in their forest habitats. Dusky Lories primarily feed on nectar, pollen, fruits, and seeds, using their specialized brush-tipped tongues to extract nectar from flowers. They are also known for their playful and energetic behavior, often engaging in acrobatic flight displays and vocalizations. Despite their vibrant appearance, Dusky Lories face threats from habitat loss and capture for the pet trade.
