Pseudeos fuscata
The Dusky Lory (Pseudeos fuscata) is a medium-sized parrot native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and nearby islands. These striking birds are known for their vibrant plumage, which features a mix of deep blue, purple, and red hues. Dusky Lories are highly social and often form large flocks, displaying remarkable agility and acrobatic flight patterns. They primarily feed on nectar, pollen, fruits, and seeds, using their specialized brush-tipped tongues to extract nectar from flowers. Their loud and distinctive calls can be heard echoing through the dense forest canopy. Unfortunately, the Dusky Lory faces threats from habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade.
