Dusky Moorhen

Gallinula tenebrosa

The Dusky Moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa) is a medium-sized waterbird found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. It is characterized by its dark plumage, red frontal shield, and white undertail. Dusky Moorhens are often found in freshwater wetlands, including swamps, lakes, and marshes, where they forage for aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. They are known for their loud, repetitive calls and are often seen swimming or walking on floating vegetation. These birds are adaptable and can also be found in urban parks and gardens near water bodies. The Dusky Moorhen is not currently considered to be globally threatened and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
