Dusky Myzomela

Philemon buceroides

The Dusky Myzomela (Philemon buceroides) is a small bird native to the forests and woodlands of New Guinea and nearby islands. It is known for its distinctive black plumage with a contrasting bright red patch on the throat of the male. The female has a more subdued plumage with a grayish-brown coloration. These birds are nectar feeders and can often be found in flowering trees, where they use their slender, curved bills to extract nectar and small insects. They are also known for their melodious and varied calls, which are often heard in the forest canopy. The Dusky Myzomela plays a vital role in pollination and seed dispersal within its habitat.
