Caprimulgidae — Nightjars

Eared Poorwill, Nyctiphrynus mcleodii, is a nightjar of western Mexico in the family Caprimulgidae. It was described by Brewster in 1888. It occurs through much of the length of the country’s western side, with breeding range in Middle America: w Mexico. It is linked to open pine and oak woodland in semi-arid mountain country, and also turns up in wooded gullies, on hillsides below cloud forest, and in overgrown fields. The bird is noted for the feather tufts on its crown, and the nominate form also shows a pale neck band, spotted wings and tail tips, with a rufous morph recorded as well.
