East Coast Akalat, Sheppardia gunningi, is a bird of eastern and south-eastern Africa, with a breeding range from Kenya to Mozambique. It lives in forest and belongs to the chats and other Old World flycatchers in the family Muscicapidae. It was first described by Haagner in 1909. The bird is also known as Gunning’s robin, and its name honours J. W. B. Gunning. It has been affected by habitat loss. It was later found to be more widespread than once thought.
