Eastern Chanting Goshawk, Melierax poliopterus, is a bird of prey found in Africa from Ethiopia and Somalia to Tanzania. It is a separate species within the Accipitridae, described by Cabanis in 1868. It lives in semidesert, dry bush and wooded grassland, and may occur up to 2000 m. It is often seen in large groups and is known for hunting in a pack. It also favours exposed perches on mountains and rocky places, and its name comes from its breeding-season calls.
