Eudynamys orientalis
The Eastern Koel is a migratory bird species found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. The male has glossy black plumage with striking red eyes, while the female is brown with white streaks. They are known for their distinctive call, often heard during the breeding season. Eastern Koels are brood parasites, laying their eggs in the nests of other bird species, particularly the Red Wattlebird and friarbirds. They inhabit a variety of forested and urban areas, including woodlands, parks, and gardens. The species is not globally threatened and is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
