Eastern Rosella

Platycercus eximius (Shaw, 1792)

Eastern Rosella, Platycercus eximius, is a parrot of se Australia and Tasmania in Australasia. It was described by Shaw in 1792 and belongs to the Psittaciformes and Psittaculidae. In its range it is a familiar bird of open country and farmland, and in New Zealand it has also become established. The species is marked by a red head, white cheeks, a white bill and brown eyes. Its upper breast is red, the lower breast yellow, and the colour softens to pale green on the belly. The back has black feathers edged in yellowish and greenish tones.
