Eastern Yellow-billed Hornbill

Tockus kempi

The Eastern Yellow-billed Hornbill (Tockus kempi) is a medium-sized bird found in eastern Africa. It is recognized by its striking yellow beak and black and white plumage. These birds are often seen foraging on the ground for insects and small reptiles, using their long, curved bills to probe the soil. They are also known for their distinctive 'tok-tok' call, which gives them their name. Eastern Yellow-billed Hornbills are typically found in savannas, woodlands, and scrublands, and they are known for their strong territorial behavior. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential concerns for their long-term survival.
