Ecuadorian Piculet, Picumnus sclateri, is a woodpecker of Ecuador and north-west Peru, where it breeds in dry woodland and scrub. It was described by Taczanowski in 1877. This small piculet is part of the Picidae family and occurs in three named forms, with the northern race separated from the others. In Ecuador it is recorded from near sea level to 1,700 m, and in Peru up to 1,800 m. It is usually seen alone, in pairs or in small parties, and it also joins mixed flocks of small passerines.
